Brioche Hamburger Bun Recipe Ideas

Rich and fluffy, French brioche hamburger buns have a higher egg and butter content than their traditional counterparts. Some brioche bun recipes call for a bit of sugar, making them slightly sweet as well, which can provide a tasty flavor contrast to salty burgers and other fillings.

While brioche buns are typically used to hold both regular and veggie burgers, there are other ways that you can enjoy them as well. If you prefer to go the traditional route and keep them for burgers only, you can get creative with a variety of gourmet and eclectic fillings.

If your brioche buns have a touch of sweetness, try working them into your favorite brunch and even dessert recipes as a twist. The buns are  very versatile in that you can eat them at any meal, and they also make a welcome addition to any party platter or special event menu.

If you made too many buns or stocked up on the crusty bread at a French bakery, you can easily freeze them in air-tight bags to enjoy later. You can also wrap them in heavy-duty aluminum foil prior to freezing.

When you're ready to eat the brioche buns, consider these delicious recipe ideas:

1. Gourmet Hamburgers

Since brioche buns are your typical run-of-the-mill burger holders, give them the gourmet treatment. While you grill or pan-fry your hamburger or veggie patty, slice the bun and brush each side with butter or olive oil. Toast the bun in a pan until it's golden brown to give it even more flavor and texture.

Top the burger with a variety of high-quality ingredients, including brie or blue cheese, French cornichon pickles, sun-dried tomatoes, a fried egg, roasted red peppers or artichoke hearts. To bring out the sweetness of the brioche, consider topping your burger with a grilled pineapple ring or fried sweet potatoes.

2. Breakfast Sandwich

There's no better way to use your leftover brioche buns from last night's barbecue than as part of a breakfast sandwich. Start by toasting your buns, and then fill them with any combination of fried eggs, thick-cut bacon, breakfast sausage patties or sauteed veggies.

Instead of ketchup, drizzle maple syrup on the sandwiches for a sweet-and-salty combination. Complete the hearty morning meal with a breakfast side staple, such as hashbrowns, grits or fresh fruit.

3. Brioche Bun Pudding

Put your brioche buns to work as dessert by cutting them into cubes and mixing them with eggs and milk in a baking dish. Customize the pudding with any of your favorite mix-ins, including chocolate chips, dried fruit or nuts.

Bake the pudding until it fluffs up and is golden brown on top. Finish with ice cream, whipped cream or eat it as is. The pudding will also make a sweet breakfast option on weekends or special occasions.
